RESPONSE TO COVID-19

Dear Families, Friends, and Prayer Partners of YWAM Harbour City,

The global outbreak of COVID-19 has left virtually no area of the world unaffected, and Hong Kong is no exception. As a city, however, we have found ourselves uniquely well-positioned to tackle this virus due to our shared history.

Due to previous experience with SARS, a respiratory disease similar to COVID-19 which crippled the city in 2003, Hong Kong acted extremely quickly to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. From late January, schools were shut, civil servants were ordered to work from home, and we saw nearly the entire city voluntarily begin to wear masks.

Due to the quick action of the Hong Kong government and its people, Hong Kong has managed to mitigate the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak. We have had a couple of spikes, during which the government introduced stricter social distancing guidelines and closed certain establishments until seeing the substantial decline and eventual elimination of locally transmitted cases. Hong Kongers have taken the virus seriously from the beginning and have made many personal sacrifices in order to keep it from spreading.

At YWAM Harbour City, we are committed to following the government regulations and to do our part as Hong Kong residents to act responsibly during this season of difficulty. Our staff take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and those around them. The Hong Kong government has adopted a "suppress and lift" policy in which they impose restrictions as necessary to contain the virus and then ease said restrictions once it seems safe to do so. Given that the situation is constantly changing, our guidelines are frequently evolving as well.
