YWAM Harbour City Blog
People and Places: Tao Fung Shan
“I have always loved Sha Tin, as it is located in such a central location. From there, you can easily reach every corner of Hong Kong. So when I moved to Pai Tau Tsuen, it was like my dream came true!”
People and Places: Yuen Long
“Food has always connected me to Hong Kong culture. I love going to cha chaan tengs with friends and eating our comfort food! I have good memories of eating "出前一丁" late at night with my dad, and he would always give me half of his bowl, even though he would come back home late from work.
People and Places: Victoria Harbour Water View
The Harbour Promenade is one of my favourite places to visit at night! While there are people around, I feel that it’s a space where I can have a quiet moment with God as I stare at the city light reflections on the water.
People and Places: Victoria Harbour Lights
The Harbour Promenade is one of my favourite places to visit at night! While there are people around, I feel that it’s a space where I can have a quiet moment with God as I stare at the city light reflections on the water.
People and Places: Sham Shui Po
I love creativity. And I think the best thing about creativity is that it expresses itself in so many different ways. It’s all about passion. When I go to the Sham Shui Po Golden Computer Arcade, everyone there is so passionate and excited.
People and Places: Tai Mo Shan
The city of Hong Kong has certainly captured my heart. Sometimes, though, it is essential to commune with God in a natural space like Tai Mo Shan.
People and Places: Tom Lee Music
One of my favourite places to visit in Hong Kong are music stores! They have a lot of cool guitars and gear. Being here is relaxing whenever I observe the craftsmanship that goes into building these instruments.
People and Places: Tai O Fishing Village
If there’s one place that reminds me of my home, Halifax, it would be Tai O. The quietness, the smell of the ocean, and the sight of the fisherman reeling in fish bring me back to the fishing town in Canada.
People and Places: Tai O Mountains
I was introduced to Tai O in 2018 when I came for an outreach. I feel relaxed, at peace, and refreshed when I'm surrounded by nature. Here is also where I’ve gained clarity in my personal vision and calling as a discipler.
People and Places: Mong Kok
Whether it be the smell of street food, the neon lights, or crowded streets, I get to experience the vibrant energy from Hong Kong youth.
People and Places: Tin Shui Wai
Tin Shui Wai is like an old friend who is wise and patient. Young and biassed as I was, I wished to disconnect from her as much as possible. As years passed by, I began to appreciate and be grateful for what she had offered me, which is a perspective that is not based on the outlook but an effort to seek out what is precious and unique inside.
People and Places: Kai Kung Leng
Kai Kung Leng never ceases to amaze me, despite the numerous hikes and different life seasons. God’s creativity and beauty constantly blow me away whenever I reach the peak. And my worries and anxieties always faded away whenever I reached the top.
A Missionary’s Experience Learning Cantonese Part 1
Ever since I first came to Hong Kong and started making friends, I’ve had the desire to learn the language and communicate to my local friends in their language. When we speak in English, I feel that I am missing out on a part of their lives because of their heart language. It is worth learning a language to communicate with people in a way that they naturally express themselves. It’s been one of my motivations in learning this language.
Telling the Story
“I pray I never tire of going hard for Messiah. I don’t need no motivation, You’re the reason I’m inspired! Go hard, or go home. Lord, use me up.”
Idolizing “Doing”
As missionaries, we are constantly required to report our progress. Our support base – the generous Christians who pay our rent, our grocery bills and our outreach expenses – should receive regular updates on the outcome of their investments. This is all well and good, but it can cause us to focus exclusively on our accomplishments and, in some cases, to neglect the first calling of a Christian, which is to know Jesus.
We Don't Know Your Name
For the past months, our team of staff at YWAM Harbour City have been serving in new ways. Usually, our local outreaches would be more face to face, but what do we do, when we cannot go out and meet people?
Is Jesus Worth It?
As Christians, we often make statements such as, “Jesus is my everything” or, “I don’t need anything or anyone but Jesus”. The question is, as Christians, do we really believe these words?
Cultivating Long-Distance Friendships as a Missionary
Cultivating healthy long-distance friendships is not easy, it takes time, but it’s so worth it. Having a community around you, walking with you as you serve the Lord is an essential part of being a missionary. Hope these 4 ways of building friendships inspired you to connect with your close friends, even though you are miles and miles away!
The Village: Shui Tau Tsuen
People often think our base is in the downtown area of Hong Kong because of our name “Harbour City”, when actually, we live in a beautiful village called Shui Tau Tsuen. This is a virtual tour of the village we live in!
